Weapons in Defense of the State: When More is Less

  • Present and Future of Conflict

Tuesday, 31 May 2011, 14:00 - 15:30

Hosted by the Small Arms Survey

A common misperception exists that more weapons equal greater security. The Small Arms Survey's field research provides ample evidence that this is often not the case when small arms, light weapons and their ammunition are involved. This panel highlights problems associated with stockpile management, transfers of surplus ammunition and weapons bought and brought for other actors (private security companies and peacekeeping forces) to promote law and order.
